MileyMiley Cyrus has caused a lot of noise lately.  She’s gone from being the singer my daughter Rachel liked to sing along with to the one that Rachel knows to stay away from.

The lyrics from one of her latest hits, “We Can’t Stop”, has some truth in it.  This is true:

“It’s our party we can do what we want

It’s our party we can say what we want

It’s our party we can love who we want

We can kiss who we want

We can sing what we want”

The tune is catchy but the lyrics don’t tell the whole story.

God has given us free will and we can choose to do what we want to do.

The issue that I have with Miley’s lyrics is that they fail to mention that there are consequences to “doing what we want”.

Contrary to popular belief that it doesn’t matter what you believe as long as you’re sincere, the Bible really does have instructions that we can trust.

It doesn’t matter if the popular culture says “Be true to yourself”, there really is a Truth whether you believe it to be true or not.

If you believe that 2+2=5 and you are really sincere about that, you’re still WRONG.  You can believe that Miley’s other song, “Wrecked”, is actually sang by Gaga, but you would also be WRONG.

Some things are true and some things are not true, regardless of what you believe about them.  Being “sincere” is not the most important thing when it comes to living your life.  The most important thing about your beliefs and your life’s foundation is that it be TRUE.

God has given us the opportunity to know Him through Jesus.  If we choose not to believe, we can “do what we want” or believe what we want.  We would just be wrong.

Pray for Miley, by the way.  She matters to God, even if she doesn’t realize or believe it.
